The municipal council has decided to award the building lease plots (Baurechtsparzellen) to the housing cooperatives wohnen&mehr and Wohngenossenschaft Redingbrücke. The two cooperatives submitted a joint application in September 2025.
WG Redingbrücke contributes the experience of a housing cooperative already well established in the nearby Breite district, while wohnen&mehr has created an impressive example of urban, intergenerational living at the Westfeld site in Basel, combining new buildings with converted existing structures (the former Felix Platter Hospital).
The municipal council is convinced that the two cooperatives will make a significant contribution to the development of a vibrant and diverse neighborhood in the center of Birsfelden.
The final allocation of the building lease plots is scheduled for the municipal assembly on 22 June 2026.
